Just a personal note.Unfortunately, two patients have passed away and their families are good people.
Wes W. passed away at too young of age(28) and Paula , Jason and Sty have already grieved in the past about another son. Say a prayer for the family.

Bob Schultz has helped the practice significantly volunteering his time as a temporary office manager during the horrible days after the Blues suspension. Unfortunately, his wife passed away after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer, in which he devoted all his time and effort in supporting her battle. Say a prayer for him.

Sorry if I am too pushy, but I always cared for my patients.

If any other patients have passed away without my knowledge, please let me know. Thanks

Dr. R

Hope everyone had a good summer, I wish Happy New Year to all my patients and friends, regardless of your religious beliefs. Lets hope things get better.
My journey is still taking a much more complicated twist than anticipated.

I am still working hard to see if I can restart my practice, and I appreciate many of your inquiries about my future. As always, it is about money-specifically the amount for my malpractice premium. When I am able to solve that dilemna, I will be able to start practicing immediately.

Until then, I am looking at some other opportunities as a transition. And there are some new possibilities that might help me get out of this nightmare .I am still very involved with Adult ADD, even though I won’t be allowed to prescribe stimulants at this time. A very Slippery SLope.

All I know is that my practice’s approach to treating our dysfunctions , which benefitted our physical health, is much more progressive and HONEST than the traditional , defensive type medicine that sadly exists in today’s healthcare. That would truly be HEALTH CARE REFORM, but we all know how well that was received and how much both you and I have paid the price for this thinking.

Sorry, I might be down, but, I am not dead.I will keep striving to do what’s best for the patient.

.

FYI-Not a surprise

Article from PSYCHIATRIC TIMES

Stimulants have been found to protect youth with ADHD from developing major depression (MD). To ascertain if these effects are relevant to other common comorbid disorders, Dr Joseph Biederman and colleagues examined data from a 10-year, prospective study of white male youth with ADHD ages 6 to 17.

Of the 112 youth who were successfully reascertained at follow-up, 82 (73%) had received stimulant treatment, with a mean treatment duration of six years. In comparison with those who never took stimulants, participants who had received stimulant medication were significantly less likely to subsequently develop MD (24% versus 69% for those who were stimulant naïve), conduct disorder (22% versus 67%), oppositional defiant disorder (40% versus 88%) and multiple anxiety disorders (7% versus 60%). Children receiving stimulant therapy also had significantly lower lifetime rates of grade retention as compared to their counterparts who never received stimulants (26% versus 63%). Although parents from the non-stimulant group reported a significantly higher rate of bipolar disorder, the risk difference was not statistically significant.

The researchers concluded that these findings further enhance the claim of stimulants’ protective effects and hypothesized that “Efficacious stimulant therapy may interrupt the pathogenic trajectory leading toward other disorders.”

New Direction

May 29, 2009

At this time I have decided to focus just on positive things in life and that also relates to my BLOG. I have streamlined my blog even more , so that we can focus on the present and the future. The past is the past and there have been good and not so good times. That is LIFE and generally I am fairly content that I have helped so many people, and, I will continue to help in the future.

Just because certain posts and comments are not seen on this blog does not mean that they are history. Actually, many of the thoughts and prayers by all of you will always be stored and cherished for many years.

This is NOT a good bye, just a different direction in this challenging journey called life. I am still processing my way towards employment options and as soon as I find the answer to my quest for the right type of work, all of you will be notified.

As always,
DR.R.

ps:Long live all the Oscars and Felixes in all of us!!
